South Dakota Unemployment Claim

If you are a resident of South Dakota and have become unemployed, you may be eligible to file a South Dakota unemployment claim.  The way you file an unemployment claim in South Dakota is to either file it online or by calling the call center to file it over the telephone.

Your South Dakota unemployment claim should be filed during the first week that you become unemployed, even if you have worked part of that week.  If you delay in filing your claim, it may result in the loss of your benefits.  The best time to call is usually on Tuesday through Thursday, as these days usually have the shortest time to wait on hold before you can speak to a claims specialist.  You will receive credit for the week if you call before 4:20 p.m. on Fridays except when extended hours are in effect.  The call center is not open on holidays.

You may also file a South Dakota unemployment claim by going to their website at www.sd.uiclaims.com.  The website is available 24 hours a day, every day of the week.  If you choose to call the call center, their regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. (CST).  However, the call center hours have now been extended until 6:20 p.m. because of the high rate of unemployment.  The number to call is 605-626-3179.  If you are hearing impaired, you can call the Relay Service of South Dakota at 800-877-1113.

For those who are moving to South Dakota from another state, they can file an interstate claim if they were employed in that state.

To file a South Dakota unemployment claim, you will be asked for the following information:

The name and addresses of all your employers within the last 18 months
